Mendip24 2017 is in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and other charities supported by the Rotary Club of Wrington Vale.
Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word “cancer”. The Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to making this happen.
They have built world-class specialist facilities in 28 hospitals across the UK, providing a home away from home for young people while they receive treatment.
They also fund specialist nurses and youth support coordinators to support the young people in these units.
Education teams travel the country talking to young people in schools, colleges and universities about the importance of being able to spot the signs of cancer, while breaking down stigmas that normally stop people from talking about it.
Losing your hair following treatment for cancer can be a big shock, especially for a young person. The Teenage Cancer Trust work with Hair 4 U and award winning hairdresser Charlie Miller to ensure every young person with cancer has the option to choose a real hair wig for free.
